Warnock criticises 'selfish' Townsend and agent

New Leeds United boss Neil Warnock has criticised Andros Townsend and his agent after the winger returned to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

Townsend was due to remain at Leeds until the end of the season but he has returned to Tottenham after his agent told Warnock that he was not happy at Elland Road.

Warnock was critical of both the player and his agent and he has heard that another championship club are interested in the 20 year old.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I have been told that Birmingham City want to sign him. I don`t suppose that as anything to do with him not liking it here.

"I don`t want anybody who doesn`t want to be at the club. If he doesn`t want to be at the club then he has to go.

"I was hoping he was going to play at Portsmouth to give me a chance to bring somebody in but I am afraid there are a lot of selfish people out there with agents who do not think twice, so I am disappointed at that."

Townsend made seven appearances during his stay with Leeds but his start against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday was his first start in four games after being dropped to the bench for the three previous games.
