Bates - Warnock wants to lead us to promotion

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says new manager Neil Warnock`s ambition is to take the club back into the Premier League and break a record he currently shares with two other managers.

Warnock has currently won promotion on seven occasions, something that has only been achieved by Graham Taylor and Dave Bassett in Football League history and Bates says the new manager is determined to get Leeds promoted to own the outright record.

Bates speaking on Yorkshire Radio said "Neil wasn`t particularly motivated by money. He has an ambition in that he is one of three managers to win promtion on seven occasions and he wants to make it eight.

"In the way the game is going it will be difficult it will be difficult for someone to do that. His ambition is to take Leeds into the Premier League."

Warnock helped Scarborough into the Football League in 1987 when they won the Football Conference, the first club to win promotion following the introduction of promotion from the conference to the Football League.

Since then he has won promotion with Notts County on two occasions, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers.

Three of Warnock`s promotions have come in the second tier of English football with Notts County, Sheffield United and just last season he led Queens Park Rangers to the championship title.
