LUFC Bates thanks Grayson and wishes him well

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has thanked Simon Grayson and his coaches and wished them all the best in their new jobs.

Bates sacked Grayson three weeks ago after a poor run of results culminated in a 4-1 defeat to Birmingham City at Elland Road.

Bates has generally been critical of Grayson since his departure from Elland Road in his interviews on Yorkshire Radio and also in his programme notes, but today during his interview for Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "We had him for three years and he did a good job and stabilised the club.

"He got us promotion, and it is always difficult when you part company with managers.

"We seem to have drifted away this season which is why there was a change, but I would like to place on record my thanks to him and his merry men for what they did and wish them all them well in their new jobs."

Grayson has not had to wait long though to get back into work having taken over at West Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town earlier this week on a three-year contract. Ian Miller and Glynn Snodin who both worked alongside him at Elland Road have joined him.

It only took him three weeks to come out with this rather than having a dig at him at every opportunity.
