LUFC Bates - Villa will not extend Delph loan

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says Aston Villa are not prepared to extend the loan deal of Fabian Delph.

Delph joined Leeds towards the end of the January transfer window on a month`s loan, taking him up to the game at Portsmouth on February 25th.

Former manager Simon Grayson always said that they were hopeful of extending the deal until the end of the season but Bates says Villa would not extend the deal.

Bates also said that he will leave any decision with the new Leeds manager, once installed, as to whether they will contact Villa manager Alex McLeish to see if there is any possibility of extending his current loan.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "Aston Villa always said that they would not extend it but we will have to find out with whoever gets the managerial position. It will be their decision, not mine."

Delph has played in all four Leeds games since his return to Elland Road but could be a major doubt for the game with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The midfielder limped out of the game at Coventry City on Tuesday night just past the hour mark, after extensive treatment on the pitch.
