Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet says his side showed the desire and belief to win after leaving Elland Road with all three points on Saturday.

Brighton won 2-1 thanks to an Alan Navarro goal deep into stoppage time to keep up their unbeaten run to 2012 and spoil Leeds caretaker manager Neil Redfearn`s first home game in charge.

The seagulls beat Leicester City last weekend with a goal in the dying seconds of the game and Poyet says it is the player`s desire and belief that has turned two points into six.

Speaking on the Brighton official website , Poyet said, "To win against Leicester last week and now Leeds United highlights the desire and belief in the side to keep pushing for victory when a draw might look the most likely outcome."

Poyet made his first return to Leeds since leaving his role as assistant manager of the club in the autumn of 2007.

The Uruguayan was assistant manager to Dennis Wise at Elland Road before moving on to take over the same role at Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Since taking over as manager of Brighton in November of 2009, he has led them to the League One championship title and they now look strong contenders for back-to-back promotions by moving above Leeds in the championship table.

Brighton are now just one point outside the play off positions after making it nine games unbeaten in league and cup.

Poyet felt his players showed the belief to go on and win especially after Leeds equalised through Luciano Becchio with just over ten minutes remaining. "When Leeds equalised the dynamics of the game could have changed but we kept passing, kept believing and we got our rewards," continued Poyet.

The win for Brighton was only their second ever win at Elland Road in seventeen games and their first since the 1985/86 season.
