Leeds United midfielder Adam Clayton says the side have to kick on for the rest of the season after the departure of manager Simon Grayson this week.
Grayson was dismissed on Wednesday following the heavy 4-1 home defeat by Birmingham City on Tuesday night left Leeds in tenth place in the championship.
Despite dropping down to tenth, Leeds are just four points outside the play offs.
Clayton admitted he was shocked following the sacking of Grayson but he says the side must remain positive.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Clayton said, "I was disappointed and it was a shock to the system, but now we have to kick on, be positive and see what we can do for the rest of the season."
Clayton has been an integral part of the Leeds midfield this season following a slow start to his Elland Road career.
The 22 year old signed in the summer of 2010 from Manchester City and after making just four substitute appearances, he spent most of the season on loan at Peterborough United and MK Dons in League One.
Both sides eventually finished the season in the play offs with his former loan club Peterborough knocking out MK Dons at the semi-final stage, with Clayton playing in both games.
Clayton returned to Elland Road and took his opportunity during pre-season to impress and push his claims for a regular place in the starting line-up.
The midfielder started the first game of the season at Southampton and despite a poor team performance, Clayton stood out in the side.
He has missed just one championship game this season through injury, making 30 appearances in all competitions.
Clayton has also chipped in with some crucial goals, including an injury time equaliser at West Ham and a superb winner at Leicester City, which was voted as Leeds best goal of 2011 in a recent poll and was entered in the Football League goal of the year.
