LUFC Lonergan - Grayson sacking not unexpected

Leeds United goalkeeper Andy Lonergan was surprised to see manager Simon Grayson lose his job this week but he felt something might happen because of rumblings around the club.

Grayson was dismissed after just over three years at the club following the disappointing 4-1 home defeat to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

Lonergan has recently taken over the captain`s armband at Elland Road and although he was surprised, he felt that the rumblings around Elland Road made it not unexpected. Speaking on the official website, Lonergan said, "I was probably the same as everyone in that I was surprised, but it wasn`t unexpected.

"You always felt something might happen because of the rumblings, so surprised but not unexpected."

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been a regular in the Leeds side since moving to Elland Road from Preston North End in the summer.

He has recently returned to the side after two months on the sidelines after breaking his finger at Doncaster in October.

The injury saw him miss eleven games before returning in the home game with Reading in December.

He took over the captain`s armband following injuries to Jonny Howson and Patrick Kisnorbo and he has captained the side in the last four games.

By the sounds of Lonergans interview he was more surprised it took so long

By the sound of what Lonergan says there was trouble in the dressing room...he felt that the rumblings around Elland Road made it not unexpected...When O'Brien said he'd never play under Grayson again it seems the rest followed suit! The way they played in some games...
