LUFC Lees wants to be key player at the club

Young Leeds United defender Tom Lees is enjoying his first season in the Leeds first team and he is looking to become a key player for the club in the future.

The 21 year old has been an almost ever present this season in the Leeds defence and is looking settled in the centre of the Leeds defence alongside Darren O`Dea having started the season at right full back.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Lees said, "I`m pretty pleased with the season so far, but I`m not going to rest.

"I`m going to strive to be one of the key players at the club and I`ve just got to knuckle down and keep working to try and do that.

"If you start to think you are going to play every week, as soon as that happens, someone else will come in. When you get a chance, you`ve got to progress and keep learning and I`m going to try and do that as I`d love to be a key player."

The defender learned his trade away from Elland Road in the previous two seasons.

Lees, a product of the Leeds United academy, spent the 2009/10 season on loan with Accrington Stanley making 46 appearances. Stanley manager John Coleman stated at the time that he was one of the best young defenders in League Two.

He spent last season on loan with Bury and helped the Quakers win promotion from League Two where he made 50 appearances.

His form at Bury earned him a new two and a half year deal at Elland Road in December 2010. His early season form this season at Leeds saw Leeds offer him a new and improved deal extending his deal until the summer of 2015.
