Bates - No truth in Snoddy and Clayton rumours

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says there is no truth in the rumours that the contract negotiations of Robert Snodgrass and Adam Clayton have stalled.

The pair have eighteen months remaining on their current contracts and newspapers have reported this week that both players have turned down new deals offered to them by Leeds United.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "The fans naturally get frustrated and start shouting and bawling and nothing has happened. Neither Snodgrass nor Clayton are out of contract at the end of the season, they are both happy and playing well.

"Snoddy`s return after his appendix operation is nothing short of miraculous and he has more than contributed to the team since his return.

"Adam Clayton, it said that his contract had stalled or something. I expect the agent has put that out. His contract has not stalled and in any case, his contract runs until 2013, so there is no immediate hurry. These negotiations are better outside the transfer windows, first of all there is more time and it enables people to concentrate their mind."

There have also been a number of rumours linking the pair with a move away from Elland Road during the transfer window.

Clayton has been linked with Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Stoke City and Fulham, whilst Snodgrass has only this week been linked with fellow championship side West Ham United.
