LUFC Grayson - Snodgrass rumours are rubbish

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson says the rumours surrounding Robert Snodgrass turning down a new deal are a load of rubbish.

A story broke on Saturday saying that negotiations had broken down with the Scotland international and he would not be signing a new deal despite still having eighteen months remaining on his current contract.

Speaking on the official website, Grayson said, "His contract talks have not got going since the summer.

"We turned down a bid from Norwich and both parties agreed then that we would leave it until it suits us both. It`s not as if we`ve got round the table in the last 10 days and things have stalled.

"There`ve been no negotiations for four to five months and that was agreed in the summer. He still has 18 months on his contract so we`re in a good position. We`d like to keep him longer, which is why we offered a new contract, and when you turn down a fee from another club it`s courtesy to offer a new deal.

"We didn`t have to do that in the summer and that`s why we`ve left it. Whoever`s come up with the story saying talks have broken down is talking rubbish."

Snodgrass has recently returned to the Leeds side after undergoing surgery on his appendix over the festive period.

He scored his second goal in two games since his return in the 3-1 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday and he now has ten goals for the season, just one behind his best return in a season for Leeds.

I did say when I read it on Saturday. How can a Nigerian national newspaper break this news.
