LUFC Leeds turn down Puncheon opportunity

Leeds United have turned down the opportunity to sign Jason Puncheon from Southampton according to chairman Ken Bates.

Leeds were on the verge of signing Puncheon on transfer deadline day in August before he opted for a loan move to Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.

Bates blasted Puncheon when doing his weekly interview on Yorkshire Radio back in September after he chose QPR ahead of Leeds.

He re-told the story in his weekly interview on Yorkshire Radio today but this time did not mention the player`s name.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio today, Bates said, "There is one player who agreed to join us in August at 7.30 on deadline day, and we were waiting for him to sign the papers by fax.

I am sitting watching Sky Sports News and see him walking into another clubs ground at 11pm that night to sign for them.

"It hasn`t worked out and we had his club back on the phone yesterday asking if we wanted to take him this time. We told them they could stick him up your jumper. The way he behaved towards Leeds United in August, he is not the sort of person we want at Elland Road."

Puncheon returned to Southampton this month after making just two substitute appearances for Rangers in the Premier League.

Southampton rejected a move from Blackpool to sign Puncheon earlier this week for a fee in the region of 650,000.
