LUFC Grayson looking to strengthen the defence

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is looking to bring in a central defender with only two fit centre backs currently at the club.

Grayson was dealt a blow in the win over Burnley on Monday when Patrick Kisnorbo was ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury early in the game.

Alex Bruce had been recalled from his loan spell at Huddersfield Town and he looks set to be missing for at least the Arsenal game after suffering a hamstring injury late in the same game.

Leigh Bromby is out for around three weeks with a calf injury and Andy O`Brien looks set to be leaving this month after refusing to play for the club since November.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Grayson said, "I`ve got other areas of the pitch I`d like to strengthen too but this is an area where we`re a little bit short now.

"A few weeks ago we had six centre backs on our books but, as things stand now, for Monday night we`ve got two in Tom Lees and Darren O`Dea.

"Alex has done a bit of running with the physios but he`s going to be extremely doubtful. Hamstring injuries should rule you out for at least 10 days but if it`s not as bad as first feared then he might have a chance."

With Kisnorbo, Bruce, Bromby and O`Brien this leaves just Tom Lees and Darren O`Dea as fit centre backs at the club, although both have been struggling recently.

O`Dea made his first start over the festive period since suffering a head injury in November and Grayson has admitted that the defender, who is on loan from Celtic is not fully fit.

Lees has not played in the last two games since suffering a head injury in the game at Derby County on Boxing Day.

O`Dea and Lees look set to play together against Arsenal on Monday night as they try and keep returning Arsenal hero Thierry Henry quiet.

Henry has returned to Arsenal this week on loan after five years away from the club.

The clubs all-time leading goalscorer has netted eleven times in his last eleven games against Leeds, including four when the two sides last met in 2004 at Highbury.

Probably be a loanee for a month but who is available who can go straight in. I thought O'Dea and Lees were making a good partnership before injuries. We have a few youngster including Gimple who can be back up.
