LUFC Leeds fan wins top award
Leeds United fan Mark Cavendish won the top award at the BBC Sports Personality 2011 awards on Thursday night.
The cyclist won five stages in the Tour de France earlier this year taking the coveted green jersey for the leading sprinter.
Cavendish won the world championship in Denmark in September to cap a fantastic year riding for team HTC-Highroad.
The 26 year old was born on the Isle of Man but got the Leeds bug due to his mum Adele being born in Leeds.
Speaking earlier this week in the Sun newspaper, Cavendish explained his allegiance to Leeds United. 'I was a Leeds United fan growing up because my mum is from Leeds and it was the first kit I ever got. It was in the days of Gary McAllister and Gary Speed, who was my favourite player.
Cavendish beat golfer Darren Clarke (2nd) and long distance runner Mo Farah (3rd) to the award.
