Bates will not risk stability of club on players

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says the club will not spend money they do not have on players in the hope of winning promotion.

Bates says that whilst a number of clubs have gone out on a limb in the transfer market, in an attempt to go up to the Premier League, he will not risk the long-term future of the club by spending money that the club do not have.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "Banks are not lending money for speculative work; they will not give you money to buy players.
"You can however fund long-term work.
"What we are doing now is a long-term investment. We have one of the best-appointed grounds in the league providing the highest quality of facilities for our fans, so when we get into the Premiership we are ready to go and not looking like a building site.
"We are one of the most stable clubs in the country, we will not take any risks, and we will not spend money that we haven`t got in the hope that we will go up."
