LUFC Bates - Howson out for at least two months

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says skipper Jonny Howson will spend two to three months on the sidelines.

Howson suffered a knee injury in the recent home game with Millwall and despite him not requiring surgery, he faces a lengthy spell out.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "We don`t know the extent of Jonny`s length of treatment yet but it is going to be two to three months."

Howson was forced to miss his first game through injury at Watford on Saturday since Leeds returned to the championship last season.

He was the only player to start all 46-championship games last season and the only previous game prior to Watford that he had not started this season was when he missed the Hull City game through suspension.

Mika Vayrynen is pushing for a starting place in the side in place of Howson.

The Finland international came off the bench last Saturday and earned the side a penalty in the final seconds of the game, which earned Leeds a point.

On Tuesday he scored Leeds goal in a 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town in a behind closed doors friendly, to enhance his chances of only his second start since joining the club in September..

Always amazes me how much Bates and Grayson contradict eash other. Only two days ago, Grayson was saying its not that bad and he will weeks not months.

Chuffing hell, lets get the facts right and keep the supporters informed

What did I say earlier in the week when Grayson said it was only weeks not months, I said he would be out for a couple of months. Why doesn't Grayson just tell the truth rather than, 'I am not going to put a timescale on it' rubbish that he always come out with. We keep blaming the physio's but the time he is out might be actually right just badly reported by Grayson.
