LUFC Grayson - Players need to take opportunity

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is hoping that his squad players are ready to step up to the mark ahead of a busy period of games.

Leeds look like going into the midweek game with Watford without captain Jonny Howson through injury. Also, Michael Brown, who has only recently returned to the side is also struggling with an ankle injury.

Grayson is hoping that those that have had to sit on the sidelines and wait for their opportunity are ready to fight for a regular place in the Leeds side.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, "I`m looking for players to step in and have flexible players who can go and play in these different positions because you know that they are going to be needed.
"I have always said from day one in pre-season that it is a squad game. We will do well as a team and a group by everybody pulling in the same direction. Those that are not in the team have to keep working hard and make sure they are ready to go into the side and do themselves justice.
"Once they are given the opportunity they have got to try and make sure that they stay in there and if you are fit and you are sharp then you are giving yourself that opportunity."

Leeds have the busy festive period coming up and despite the injuries to Howson and Brown they have been boosted by the return to full fitness of Andy Lonergan and Mika Vayrynen following their injuries.

When squad players have had a rare chance of a game in the past few seasons none have taken their chance with both hands. And if they did, I still think Grayson would always return to his favourites. Our problem is, he sticks with his favourites nearly all season so when any of them get injured those coming in are not match fit.

Just shows how thin our squad is when players who are out of form keep their place
