Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is confident that Aidy White will sign a new contract with the club after turning down an initial offer this week.
White is in the final year of his current contract and Grayson was not surprised to see the initial offer turned down. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said. "Like any contract negotiations, I don`t think I have been involved with a player or an agent who have actually decided to take the first offer, it is just the nature of the game.
"From our point of view you don`t want to be going over the top with the contract offered. Obviously players have got a value that they value themselves at and somewhere in the middle you reach an agreement and they sign."
Grayson will sit down again with White and renegotiate a new deal and he is confident White will stay at Elland Road. "I think Aidy White has done really well for us, he wants to stay at the football club and I am sure something will be sorted in the next few weeks," he continued.
White has enjoyed a successful season at Elland Road, having played in all but four of Leeds games so far this season.
He finally looks to have solved the left full back position problem that has troubled Leeds in recent years.
His form as also earned him international recognition this season and he has played in all five Republic of Ireland under 21 games so far this season, netting his first goal for them in their last game against Liechtenstein.
