LUFC Bates - Hitting form at just the right time

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates was happy to see the gap closed on those sides in the automatic promotion places at the weekend and he feels Leeds may be timing a good run at just the right time.

With Leeds kicking off at lunchtime on Saturday and winning it gave them the opportunity to sit back and watch see how the rest of the championship unfolded in the afternoon.

Both, leaders Southampton and second placed West Ham United suffered surprise defeats at the hands of Doncaster and Burnley respectively and Bates was delighted with the outcomes.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "West Ham and Southampton both lost. Well done to Burnley and Doncaster, whoever thought I would be cheering on Doncaster.
"The gaps been closed quite significantly. We are now six points behind West Ham and eight behind Southampton and they both still have to come to us."

Leeds have picked up twelve points from a possible fifteen from their last five games and Bates believes that the side are hitting form at just the right time. "It is tightening up and looking good and maybe we are running into form at just the right time," he continued.

Leeds will be hoping to keep up their good record on the road in recent months, with three of the next four games away from Elland Road.

The whites have won five of their last six away games and they face trips to Watford, this weekend, and Derby and Barnsley over the festive period.

We may be hitting form but what we also need to do is invest in the squad in January this season. Whilst everyone else did last season, we didn't.
