LUFC Howson glad to get first goal

Leeds United captain Jonny Howson was happy to score his first goal in twenty-eight games at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night after admitting he`s come in for some stick from his team mates because of his lack of goals.

Howson put Leeds two goals up shortly before half time with a superb volley from twenty-five yards.

It was his first goal since April, ironically also against Nottingham Forest when the two sides met at Elland Road.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Howson said, "I`ve had a little bit of banter on the training pitch from a few of the lads asking when my last goal was."

Leeds boss Simon Grayson reverted to a 4-5-1 formation against Forest for the first time this season, a system that had worked so well for Howson and Leeds last season.

Howson netted eleven times last season, including a fifteen minute hat trick at Scunthorpe when Grayson first played the system last season.

The midfielder believes the role he played at Forest, where he is playing just behind the forward, gives him more opportunity to score, "It was a different role against Forest, that`s my excuse.
"Tonight I was further forward and being in that role you`re a bit more likely to get into positions to score," he continued.

Howson continues his good run in the side. He was the only player in the Leeds side last season to start all forty-six championship games and he has missed just one game so far this season through suspension, following his sending off against Middlesbrough.

I think Grayson will now stick with the 4-5-1 system.
