LUFC Grayson ready to offer keeper a deal

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is set to offer goalkeeper Maik Taylor a deal at Elland Road.

Grayson needs to bring in cover in the goalkeeper department. Andy Lonergan is still injured and Paul Rachubka is unlikely to feature for Leeds in the near future after his disaster against Blackpool.

With Alex McCarthy on loan to Leeds from Reading until December 10th, it leaves just youngster Alex Cairns as back up.

Grayson looks like offering Taylor a deal on a short-term basis.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Grayson said, "It might be something that suits both parties in the short-term deal, to give us cover and put Maik in the shop window, or maybe even a longer-term deal until the end of the season.

Alex McCarthy will eventually go back to Reading and it might still be difficult to have Paul in or around my 16. Maik`s trained all week and we`re going to speak to him and see what comes of it.

He`s experienced and nothing`s going to faze him. He`s played at the highest level and he`s kept himself very fit."

Taylor is without a club after being released by Birmingham City at the end of last season after eight years with the club. He played for Leeds in a behind closed doors friendly against Chelsea earlier in the week, in a game where he saved a penalty.

The goalkeeper has played almost 700 games in a sixteen-year career, including 87 times for Northern Ireland.

Sure he'll be okay. Every time he keeps a clean sheet we could pay him in allotment plants and seeds as a bonus. Seriously though, age isn't much of a factor between the sticks. Experience is all...
