LUFC Grayson praises Connolly

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has praised Paul Connolly after the defender won his place back in the side last month and recognised the contribution he makes.

Connolly was a regular in the side in his first season at Elland Road but he was dropped just two games into this season in favour of youngster Tom Lees.

The former Derby County captain got his place back in the side for the Portsmouth game at the start of October and he has been an ever present since.

The right full back rarely takes the plaudits during games but Grayson recognises his contribution to the side.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Grayson said, "Paul`s been very steady at this club and he`s experienced. He doesn`t do things that make people say 'flipping hell, that`s a great ball` and he doesn`t produce big overlapping runs, but he`s very solid and that`s what you want from your defenders.
"If he gives Snod (Snodgrass) the ball and backs him up then he`s doing his job because first and foremost he`s a defender. He`s a good communicator and a captain-type and he`ll probably be talking Snod through certain situations more than a less experienced player like (say) Tom Lees would."

I always say about Connolly, he's a consistent 7 out of 10. Not very often he lets you down and Snodgrass certainly looks more involved with him playing behind him.

Round pegs in round holes always works, but if I was Lees I'd maybe be a little worried knowing how Little S G has faith in the younger players unless he's forced to. I would love to be proved wrong on this next Saturday will tell

I would still like to see Eric Lichaj back if he gets fit at Villa.
