LUFC Howson - I'll sign soon

LUFC Howson - I'll sign soon

Leeds United captain Jonny Howson says he is almost ready to sign a new deal with the club.

Howson is out of contract next summer and he has been in negotiations with the club about a new deal for a while.

The England under 21 international, says although talks are still on going, he is close to signing a new deal.

In an interview with TEAMtalk.com, Howson said, "They're going well. We've been in talks for the past month or so and although it's taking a bit of time, I'm not in a massive rush. That's always the way with negotiations but I'm sure they'll be finalised and I'll sign soon."

Howson is the longest serving player currently with the club having come through the academy system.

The 23 year old made his debut in September 2006 at just 18.

In his first full season in the first team at Elland Road, he won the Players and fans Young Player of the year award and he helped Leeds reach the League One play off final with both goals against Carlisle United in the semi final.

He has gone on to make over 200 appearances with the club and he is also the youngest Leeds captain since Billy Bremner.

Howson was the only player to start all 46-championship games last season for the club and he has missed just one game so far this season, through suspension.
