LUFC Grayson amazed by Howson criticism

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is amazed that captain Jonny Howson is coming in for some criticism this season.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Grayson said, "It amazes me when people criticise Jonny because he goes about his business in a quiet manner.
"Other people will always get the plaudits, but he does everything that you ask him to do.
"He`s a pleasure to work with and leads by example. He`s not one to steam into tackles, but he works and presses and breaks things up and plays when he gets the chance to. Jonny is a top player."

Howson, who was an ever-present last season, has missed just one game this, and that was through suspension following his sending off against Middlesbrough in Leeds first home game of the season.

The midfielder netted eleven times last season in a more attacking midfield role, with Leeds playing a 4-5-1 system. This season, Leeds have reverted to a 4-4-2, with Howson playing a more defensive role.

Howson, who is Leeds longest serving player currently at the club, is out of contract in the summer and he is yet to agree a new deal with the club.

It amazes me too to be honest, yes, sometimes he can be quiet in games but to be honest more often than not he is one of our best players each game. His quiet ones tend to when the team as a whole does not produce the goods. I know he is captain and some of that can be put on him but for me I think we would miss him if he was not here and hope he does sign. Adam Clayton has been great this seoson on whole but he has been quiet this last month or so and he does not seem to get the same backlash. lets get behind our players and hope they push us on!
