LUFC Leeds not to appeal Lees red card

Leeds United have decided not to appeal against the red card shown to defender Tom Lees against Blackpool on Wednesday night.

Lees was shown a straight red card for a deliberate handball inside the penalty area, when Lees was the last man.

Although the handball looked unintentional, Leeds have decided to not appeal the decision made by referee Roger East.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson said in the Yorkshire Evening Post, "We`ll have to take it on the chin.
"He`s not stuck his arm out deliberately, and he`s a yard away from goal, but I suppose the letter of the law says the referee has to send him off."

Opposition manager Ian Holloway also felt the decision was harsh on the 20 year old who has been a solid performer at the heart of the Leeds defence this season, when he said, "Was it a deliberate handball? Should he have been sent off, or should it just have been a penalty?
"I think some of the rules are madness and I thought it spoiled the game."

Lees is the fifth Leeds player to be sent off this season in just fifteen games and with Adam Clayton and Darren O`Dea currently on four yellow cards a piece, just one away from a one match ban, they have two more players close to suspension.

Lees will miss the trip to Leicester City on Sunday and with Darren O`Dea also still missing through injury, Andy O`Brien looks like partnering Patrick Kisnorbo at the heart of the Leeds defence.

Might have been worth a punt, but the lad probably needed a break should be fresh after the International break
