LUFC Huge PR disaster for Leeds

Leeds United have been guilty of a few PR disasters over the years but the biggest one ever happened between the sticks at the Kop end of Elland Road on Wednesday night.

Paul Rachubka has been guilty of making errors since replacing the injured Andy Lonergan in goal last month but it reached an all time low, which will surely never see him pull on the Leeds shirt again.

Rachubka was at fault for all three goals in the first half that saw Leeds 3-0 down just past the half hour mark.

Leeds had the first real chance to break the deadlock inside ten minutes when Paddy Kisnorbo had two chances to put Leeds ahead.

From then on, it was downhill. Shelvey pounced on a poor clearance by Paul Connolly, Rachubka only parried his shot and Lua Lua was on hand to put the visitors ahead.

The second goal was something you would not expect to see from a five-year-old boy playing catch with his dad in the garden. Rachubka had the easiest of catches but somehow managed to drop it at the feet of Sylvestre. Lees handled his goal bound shot and the referee had no option but to award a penalty and produce a red card.

Shelvey scored from the spot after having to retake his spot kick after the referee hadn`t even done the routine job of making sure Tom Lees was off the pitch.

Minutes later, it got even worse for Rachubka when he spilled a long range shot from Lua Lua and Shelvey had the simplest of tasks to make it 3-0.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson showed his disapproval straight away by telling young 18-year-old academy goalkeeper Alex Cairns to warm up.

Rachubka managed to see out the rest of the first half without anymore errors but as he trudged off at half time, I doubt we will see him playing on the Elland Road pitch again for Leeds.

Cairns and Luciano Becchio were both introduced at the start of the second half and for the first ten minutes Leeds had a good go at getting back into the game but without ever really troubling Matt Gilks in the Blackpool goal.

Cairns produced an excellent save to deny Shelvey his hat trick but he could do very little as first, Lua Lua scored his second and then Shelvey completed his hat trick.

The Leeds fans who stayed, tried to rally their side in the final ten minutes but thankfully, the referee blew the whistle for full time before the score could get anymore embarrassing.

It was Leeds heaviest home defeat for over 30 years since losing to Arsenal 5-0 in the early 80`s.

Somehow, Grayson now need to try to regroup his side for the trip to Leicester on Sunday.

He must surely look at bringing in a goalkeeper on loan and he has the prospect of Kisnorbo and O`Brien at the heart of the Leeds defence again.
