LUFC Mixed night for Leeds international players

It was a mixed evening for Leeds United players involved in Euro 2012 qualifiers on Friday night.

On loan, Darren O`Dea played the 90 minutes for Eire as they moved a step closer to the finals next year.

There was no place in the side though for fellow Leeds loan player Andy Keogh as Eire ran out 2-0 winners in Andorra.

It now looks like Eire will have to settle for a play off place at best after Russia won in Slovakia 1-0.

Eire were hoping that Slovakia could do them a favour with an home win over Russia, but a long distance strike from Russian Alan Dzagoev with nineteen minutes remaining, means they now just have to beat whipping boys Andorra in their final game on Tuesday to qualify.

Eire face a shoot out with third place Armenia at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday night. Eire just need a draw to ensure they will be amongst the play off teams.

Mika Vayrynen and Mikael Forssell were on duty with Finland as they lost 2-1 at home to fellow Scandinavian country Sweden.

Vayrynen started and completed 70 minutes before being substituted.

Forssell started from the bench and came on for the last thirty minutes.

Finland already had no chance of qualifying for next years final as they are fourth in-group E with just nine points from nine games.

They finish their campaign with a trip to Hungary on Tuesday night.

Leeds coach Glynn Snodin, who is number two to former Leeds defender Nigel Worthington in Northern Ireland, saw any chance they had of reaching the play offs disappear.

They took a first half lead through Steven Davies before two late goals from substitute Konstantin Vassiljev clinched a crucial 2-1 win for Estonia at Windsor Park.

Robert Snodgrass has already withdrawn from the Scotland squad with an ankle injury as they prepare for their trip to Liechtenstein this evening.

Young defender Aidy White will be in action for the Eire under 21 team on Tuesday night, in the Euro 2013 qualifier in Liechtenstein. They will be hoping to bounce back after losing their opening qualifying game 1-0 in Turkey last month.

I watched the Ireland game, shame Slovakia couldn't beat Russia

A big surprise Slovakia not beating Russia which I think are a better team then Russia...It's all down to Tuesday now for Ireland a draw will do but it wont be easy against Armenia...O'dea had a good game even dough the Irish defence hadn't to much to do...Hopefully we can either beat or draw with Armenia Tuesday night''...
