LUFC Grayson must trim squad before any additions

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson says he will have to trim his squad before anymore new faces arrive at Elland Road.

The Leeds boss has been under pressure to strengthen his defence but with centre backs, Patrick Kisnorbo, Andy O`Brien, Leigh Bromby, Alex Bruce, Darren O`Dea and Tom Lees already in the squad, Grayson admits he will have to get rid of a few players first if he wants to add to his squad.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Grayson said, "If anything was to happen in terms of someone coming in then we`d have to let a couple go out at the same time. We`re totally top heavy, particularly in the centre-back department.
"Nearly everybody is fit at the moment, really for the first time this season, and we travelled to Brighton with the 16 lads who played and six who were left out of the squad. That shows that we`ve got a good strong squad, and strong enough to see us through a tough group of games in a short period.
"If I decided to bring any more in then we`d have to shuffle it around to make that happen."

Grayson added just three players to his squad over the summer with goalkeepers Andy Lonergan and Paul Rachubka joining midfielder Michael Brown in arriving at Elland Road.

Since the closure of the transfer window at the end of August, Grayson has added Finnish international duo Mikael Forssell and Mika Vayrynen to his squad, who were both free agents. He has brought in Danny Pugh from Premier League side Stoke City on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January.

Leeds currently have just long term injured Davide Somma plus Lloyd Sam, Ben Parker and Alex Bruce on the sidelines.

For the game with Portsmouth on Saturday, amongst those missing out on a place in the 16-man squad were experienced Michael Brown, Andy O`Brien, Patrick Kisnorbo, Billy Paynter and Ramon Nunez.

If he was brave he would ship out a couple of central defenders quickly as not good enough and stick with Lees and O'Dea. I would keep Bruce and Bromby as cover and let AOB and Kisnorbo regain their fitness at someone elses expense. He should cut his losses on Paynter and Brown as well and accept he has bought a couple of duds.

Who is Grayson going to get rid of? Kisnorbo and Brown Paynter one barn door two injury! Prone...Dont think Kisnorbo will ever be the same? Paynter is a waste of space and Brown is over the hill...

We have too much deadwood at the club again. Why is it every season despite clearing the deadwood we still have plenty.
