'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Leeds United international round-up

It was a quite start to the international week for Robert Snodgrass and Darren O`Dea.

Despite scoring the winner in his first start for Scotland last time out, Snodgrass failed to make the 18 man team sheet for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

Scotland twice took the lead but eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw after a very late controversial penalty award to the visitors.

The result leaves Scotland in third place in group I.

Snodgrass will now hope to be involved when Scotland are quickly back in action on Tuesday night when they host Lithuania at Hampden Park.

On loan defender O`Dea was an unused substitute in the game between Republic of Ireland and Slovakia at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland had to settle for a 0-0 draw with former Leeds striker Robbie Keane coming closest to breaking the deadlock when he headed over from close range.

The result leaves Ireland in second place and they face a tricky trip to group B leaders Russia on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere trialist Mikael Forssell scored from the penalty spot as Finland beat Moldova 4-1.

Finland are in fifth place in group E with little chance of qualifying despite the win.

Leeds first team coach Glynn Snodin, who is the number two with Northern Ireland alongside former defender Nigel Worthington, saw there chances of qualifying dealt a blow when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Serbia.

A win would have seen them climb to second in group C and a chance of a play off place. Defeat leaves them in fifth place with Italy the runaway group leaders.

Ireland travel to Estonia next on Tuesday night.

It was also a good night for another former player who is now in management. Gary Speed saw his Wales side earn their first points in group G against Montenegro. Wales won 2-1 thanks to goals from Steve Morison and Aaron Ramsey.

Next up for Speed is the small matter of a trip to Wembley to face England on Tuesday night.

The under 21 nations started their qualifying groups for the finals in 2013 on Thursday night and Leeds defender Aidan White started for Republic of Ireland as they beat Hungary 2-1 at home.

White was also the victim of a crude challenge in the closing minutes that saw Hungary reduced to ten men.

White will now fly out with the rest of the squad for their qualifier against Turkey on Tuesday night.

Ramon Nunez wasn`t in action as Honduras were beaten 2-0 by Colombia in a game that saw both sides reduced to ten men.

Snoddy might get a run out on Tuesday against Lithuania. The Scotland national side is like their little hero Andy Murray, so close, yet so far! lol

At least Murray gets to the semis, Scotland rarely get to the Knock Out stages

O'Dea will be getting a run out with the Irish squad when they go to Russia on Tuesday'' he will probably play at right-back? John O'Shea is now out injured so O'Dea will almost certainly be involved.
