LUFC Gradel - I'm leaving Leeds with a heavy heart

Departing winger Max Gradel admitted that he is leaving Leeds United with a heavy heart.

Gradel put in a transfer request on Tuesday and has completed a move to top French side St Etienne today, signing a four-year deal.

The 23 year old was last season`s player of the year after helping Leeds finish seventh and finishing the season with 18 goals.

Gradel has been rumoured with a move away from Elland Road throughout the summer as he entered the final year of his contract.

The Ivory Coast international admits that he is leaving Leeds on a decision based on his career development. Speaking on the official website, Gradel said, 'It is with a heavy heart that I have asked to leave Leeds United.
'It was a difficult decision for me as Leeds has been a wonderful place to live and to play football.
'However, I have made the decision based on my career development, and the opportunity to play at the highest level in France is too big an opportunity to turn down.
'I want to thank all the Leeds United fans who loyally follow the team up and down the country as you have made my time at the club very special. I also want to thank Simon Grayson, my team-mates, and everyone at the club for all your help and support, and giving me the opportunity to play for this great club.
'I am sure that it will not be long before Leeds United return to the Premier League and I wish you every success in the future.'

Gradel signed for Leeds from Leicester City in January 2010 after a successful loan spell.

He made 84 appearances during his time at Elland Road netting 25 times.
