LUFC Grayson full of praise for Andy

LUFC Grayson full of praise for Andy

Leeds United manager was full of praise for goalkeeper Andy Lonergan after his performance despite losing against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Lonergan made a number of crucial saves to keep Leeds in the game, with the side down to ten men for over an hour and nine men for the final thirty minutes.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, "It goes a little bit unnoticed when you finish a game with nine men and people are just talking about the refereeing performance.
"You want to be talking about individual performances and Andy did everything you want him to do and what I signed him to do and he looked very composed and made some crucial saves.
"Ideally you don`t want him to be making that amount of saves and you want to be a bit more solid but when the game is panning out and stretched like it was, it`s difficult but he did everything that was required and I am delighted for him."

Lonergan could do little about the only goal of the game with Emnes cutting inside Tom Lees before blasting the ball past Lonergan from close range.

The goalkeeper who signed in the summer from Preston North End had already produced one fine fingertip save to deny the same player from close range in the first half.

As Leeds searched for an equaliser, Lonergan became increasingly exposed and he made great saves to deny Julio Arca, Scott McDonald, Malaury Martin and Arca again.
