LUFC Howson - This squad is good enough

Leeds United captain Jonny Howson still believes the current squad is good enough to win promotion despite the opening day defeat at Southampton.

Leeds turned in a poor performance at St Mary`s Stadium, as they were soundly beaten 3-1.

The fans have been disgruntled all summer with the lack of activity in the transfer market, as Leeds should have been building to beat their seventh place finish last season.

Howson still believes the current squad is good enough to beat last seasons finish despite a poor performance last week.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Howson said, "If you look at the starting XI and the bench, I don`t think there`s anyone you can pick out who`s not good enough.
"All of us can all compete at this level, and whether we need more players I don`t know. We have to leave that to the management because we can`t do anything about it".

Howson is now hoping that him and his teammates can put last weeks disappointment behind them when they entertain Middlesbrough on Saturday, "Our job is to play like we`re supposed to, not like we did at Southampton," he continued.

Leeds returned to winning ways in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night with a less than convincing win over Bradford City.

The defence once again look all at sea, as Leeds twice had to come from behind, eventually winning 3-2.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson may make changes in his defence on Saturday after being critical of their play in the opening two games.

Tom Lees will be hoping for his first start for the club after coming off the bench to impress on Tuesday night.

Leeds now have two home games in four days as they look to get their season off and running.

What a load of cr+p this team on current form is only going one way and that is into L1. They are not good enough for this division never mind premiership. The biggest ass lick this season so far Johnny.

If we had a fully fit squad and can keep 11 men on the pitch then there is a slight chance Johnny, but I very much doubt it!
