LUFC Three Europeans in Leeds trial

Leeds fielded three European trialists in a Leeds XI that won 4-0 on Saturday at Farsley Celtic.

One of them, Felix Luz bagged a hat trick. The 29-year-old German has been released from German third division side Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

Luz started his career at Stuttgart II and he appeared for them in the German 3rd division.

He has also had spells with FC Augsburg (German 2nd division), FC St Pauli (German 3rd division) and a spell at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on loan (German 3rd division)

The striker has suffered with knee injuries over the past few seasons that have seen his appearances limited since signing for Oberhausen in 2008.

Fellow German Dennis Grote also played at Farsley, setting up two of the goals.

The 24 year old arrives from Bundesliga side VFL Bochum after spending the end of last season on loan, at the same club as Luz, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

The midfielder has played for Bochum in the Bundesliga and he has been capped at under 21 level with Germany. Grote was part of the under 21 European squad that won the European championships for the first time in 2009, beating England in the final, although he played no part in the game.

Grote is currently out of contract at Bochum.

Belgian born Ibrahim Maaroufi was the third trialist on show at Farsley.

The 22-year-old midfielder made six appearances for Inter Milan, making his debut at just 17 in the Coppa Italia.

He made one appearances in Serie A for the Italian giants.

Maaroufi spent four years in the wilderness with Dutch sides FC Twente and MVV Maastricht, Swiss side Bellinzona and Italian side Vicenza, without making a senior appearance.

The Belgian under 21 international then joined Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca where he made two appearances before being released just six months into a two-year contract.

Maaroufi then joined Belgian side AS Eupen, playing in the Belgium top flight.

He played just 35 minutes as a second half substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Standard Liege in February.

He was also an unused substitute on four occasions before being released by Eupen at the end of the season.

Is this what its come too? scraping around the european lower leagues trying to find players! The lad who scored a hat trick yesterday is 29 and played at German 3rd division level and not been a regular and got a bad record with knee injuries. The Belgian is the same and hardly played a game at first team level and he's 24. Grote probably looks the best of the three, at least he's played at the highest level in Germany. So much for quality, Grayson will probably sign them just to send them out on loan all season!!
