LUFC Lonergan deal back on

According to reports Leeds United are once again on the verge of signing goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

The Preston goalkeeper was all set to sign for Leeds earlier in the month until negotiations broke down at the last minute.

The 27 year old is now expected to sign after the two parties agreed terms on a deal.

Leeds still only have one experienced goalkeeper at the club in Paul Rachubka, after selling Kasper Schmeichel and releasing Shane Higgs since the end of the season.

Leeds have also been strongly linked with Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale in recent weeks.

Manager Simon Grayson revealed on Saturday that the club were 90% certain of bringing in a new face with the deal likely to be concluded over the weekend, although he refused to reveal in which position.

What ever the outcome, this "deal" is now borne out of complete panic at Elland Road. We are obviously now "eating humble pie" with the offer of better financial terms for Lonergan. If only we could "turn the clock back" I feel sure we would have never sold Kasper, rather than paying "over the odds" for Preston's ( League 1) second choice keeper. ..... Leeds United are currently a total shambles !!
I'm not entirely sure thats true, there's a rumour that his daughter may have health issues and so he was possibly looking for somewhere closer to the hospital. Everton may have been closer, but that hasn't materialized. So we may have misjudged him here!
Pretty sure we have misjudged him. Another example of listening to rumours and hear say and drawing their own conclusions without knowing the whole facts about what's really happening behind the scenes regarding transfer deals. Personal terms are not just about money!
Rotherham White
Why is it a panic signing when we wanted him three weeks ago. I think it will be more the player backing down as that is not the way that Ken Bates works, ask Beckford, Johnson and Kilkenny.
At the end of the day, is this 2nd choice Preston keeper a better option than Kasper ? Also, if the issues are to do with his daughters health ( which obviously should be his priority ), why not stay at Preston ? I am not misjudging Lonergan, or critisising his financial demands, but simply questioning the lack of ability of Bates / Grayson complete transfer dealings in a manner that does not continually make LUFC a "laughing stock".
2nd choice maybe because like SG has done with Kasper, the Preston manager thought that the keeper is at fault for conceding goals? This is a team sport and the team is supposed to defend as a unit. Preston has worse defenders than us, so the keeper can't be held fully accountable but obviously nobody is perfect. As for staying at Preston, maybe Preston want to sell him because they can't afford him? At the end of the day nobody knows what is happening behind the scenes, the only thing we know is he could be a Leeds player soon, so lets support the lad and any other player we bring in whether we think they are step up or not!. MOT
Player of the year at Preston twice in the last three years. Was number 2 at Preston behind a premier league goalkeeper after losing his place through injury and not able to displace him. Does this make him a poor keeper?
He's signed now, see official site!
Wow a signing just as Grayson promised.....I'm so excite........NOT
According to S G we got rid of our Keeper because he conceded too many goals didn't Lonergan do the same at P N E. All we've done is changed the Keeper and not changed anything in front of him

Difference is he was playing for a poor side last season and not one hopefully aiming in the top half.
