LUFC Transfer rumours round up - week 10

LUFC Transfer rumours round up - week 10

We are ten weeks into the close season and the rumours are hotting up as the new season is just three weeks away.

After a couple of relatively quiet weeks on the transfer rumours front including Leeds United, it gathered pace again this week as Leeds actually added a player to their squad.

Leeds signed their second player of the season on Monday when Michael Brown was revealed following his release from Portsmouth.

The club continue to be linked with goalkeepers and David Stockdale, who has already been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer resurfaced.

The 25 year old Fulham reserve goalkeeper turned down a move to Swansea City recently but is rumoured to be keen on a move to Elland Road

The Leeds born lad revealed on his twitter page that he would love the chance to help Leeds return to the Premier League….Watch this space.

Other goalkeepers to be rumoured with a move to Elland Road this week are Iain Turner who is out of contract at Everton.

Turner is another who has been linked with Leeds already this summer and he is currently rumoured to be training with Bradford City whilst he sorts out his future.

20-year-old keeper Chris Maxwell who is currently at Blue Square conference side Wrexham was mentioned in the non-league paper this week as a possible target for Leeds.

The youngster has been capped at four levels for Wales and he won a host of player of the season trophies at the Racecourse ground last season.

Sheffield United duo Nick Montgomery and Stephen Quinn have been mentioned in a deal that would see Billy Paynter go to Bramall Lane.

Montgomery`s name as been regularly associated with a move to Leeds in the past two summers but it is the first time that Quinn as been mentioned.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has been a regular in the Sheffield United side for the past three seasons.

Finnish international Alexei Emerenko is currently with Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukraine.

The 28-year-old midfield playmaker spent last season on loan with Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock.

It was reported that he was joining up with Leeds during their pre season tour in Scotland but missed his flight.

He has won over 50 international caps for Finland and as been reportedly interesting Glasgow Celtic.
22-year-old Giles Barnes was reported to be enjoying a trial at Leeds earlier this week.

The attacking midfielder shot to prominence during his time with Derby County when he helped lead them to the Premier League during the 2006/07 season and a number of high profile Premier League sides were reportedly chasing him.

Injuries started to plague his career at Derby and he joined West Bromwich Albion in 2010.

Barnes is now out of contract at the Hawthorns and recently had a trial at Nottingham Forest.

Sammy Clingan is the latest midfielder to be linked to Leeds. The Coventry midfielder is still in contract so would involve a fee (already making the move sound unlikely). He is the current Coventry captain and their manager Andy Thorn says he is not for sale.

Regarding players leaving, one man continues to be linked with an whole host of clubs.

Max Gradel has seen his name linked with Fulham, Stoke City, Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and now French side Lille in the past week.

West Ham have reportedly put in offers of between £1 and £2.5 million for Gradel.

The most worrying link is the one to Lille who are one of the top sides in the French league, and the lure of Champions League football could be too much for Gradel to turn down.

If he does leave, then please let it be for a fee worthy of his services and not the knock down prices that are being mentioned.

We can now look at players who have been mentioned with a move to Elland Road this summer, but have signed for other clubs this week and former Leeds players dominate it.

Jonathan Woodgate stayed in the Premier League and signed for Stoke, where it is reported he is already injured!

Lee Bowyer signed for fellow Championship side Ipswich Town who continue to be very active in the transfer market this summer.

The one former player who is still to commit his future anywhere is Alan Smith.

Smith still has one year remaining on his contract at Newcastle United and Leeds have been reported as wanting to take the former favourite back to Elland Road.

Earlier this week one bookmaker slashed his odds on joining Leeds and it was reported the signing was imminent.

It seems now though that he is no nearer to joining Leeds. In one report in the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier this week, they said that a deal is no nearer with Smith refusing to budge on his current salary and take a pay cut to sign for Leeds.

We are now just two weeks away from the new championship season and have so far seen just two players sign, goalkeeper Paul Rachubka and midfielder Michael Brown.

With Leeds still having just the one recognised goalkeeper, only one of the two holes in midfield filled and now the loss of striker Davide Somma through injury, expect the rumours to be in full flow next week.

Rumours so far this summer since the 2010/11 season finished
