LUFC Leeds make it two from two

Leeds finished their two game tour of Scotland with a 2-1 win over Scottish Premier Division side Motherwell.

Second half goals from Alex Bruce and Ramon Nunez saw Leeds come from behind to claim the win.

Grayson used all twenty-one players in his squad with no sign of any trialists.

There was once again no sign of Andy O`Brien, Federico Bessone, Luciano Becchio and Davide Somma through injury

Billy Paynter had a great chance to give Leeds the ideal start when he found himself in front of goal, six yards out with only the keeper to beat. The striker who couldn`t hit a barn door from three yards last season once again failed to find the net.

Howson then made a good run into the middle and saw his shot deflected wide for a corner.

Paynter then headed wide after a free kick into the middle by Ross McCormack as Leeds started the game well.

Paynter finally found the net following a Adam Clayton cross but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Motherwell then had their best chance of the game so far when Murphy saw his shot come back off the post.

Leeds missed the chance to take the lead when Ross McCormack saw his penalty saved after a foul on Lloyd Sam.

Leeds were made to pay soon afterwards when Murphy tapped in at the far post following a cross from Humphrey.

McCormack then found the back of the net but the whistle had already been blown for a foul by Paynter.

Leeds will have been disappointed to have gone in one down after dominating for long periods.

Simon Grayson made four substitutions at half time, bringing on Alex Bruce, Ben Parker, Max Gradel and Robert Snodgrass for Leigh Bromby, Aidy White, Lloyd Sam and Adam Clayton.

Motherwell had a decent chance to double their lead early in the half when a header missed the target from close range.

Rachubka then made a decent save to deny Murphy who burst through the Leeds defence.

Leeds made a further change when Zac Thompson replaced Michael Brown in midfield.

Leeds started to get into the second half with Bruce, McCormack and Gradel all having efforts go wide of the target and Snodgrass seeing his header saved.

Gradel then saw another effort saved by Randolph as Leeds pressed for an equaliser with an hour gone.

Grayson made his sixth substitution soon afterwards replacing Billy Paynter with Ramon Nunez.

Bruce then saw his header easily saved by Randolph.

Leeds made more substitutions with Tom Lees and Nathan Turner replacing Patrick Kisnorbo and John Howson.

Thompson almost got Leeds on level terms when Randolph saved his effort.

They eventually equalised when Bruce tapped in following a mistake by Randolph in the Motherwell goal halfway through the second half.

Thompson was again in the think of the action when his effort was turned over the bar.

From the resulting corner, Bruce almost got his second when Randolph had to turn his effort from the edge of the area over the bar.

Ramon Nunez scored to put Leeds ahead with a smartly taken goal after good work from Gradel with fifteen minutes remaining.

Nunez worked himself an opening before firing past Randolph.

Motherwell came straight back into the game with Rachubka on his toes to deny their attack on a couple of occasions.

Goalkeeper Alex Cairns came on late in the game and made a couple of decent saves as Leeds held on for the win.

The win made it two out of two in Scotland and they continue their build up to the new season when they travel to League One Rochdale on Tuesday night.

I am not going to get carried away in pre season with two wins the same way as I didn''t when Bury stuffed us last summer. Lets not let this disguise the fact that we still need to bring in at least another three or four players.

Skysports said Nunez looked a cut above when he came on, and he beat 3 players bbefore firing in

Two decent results in Scotland against sides who are about three weeks ahead of us in fitness.

"Murphy tapped in at the far post following a cross from Humphrey". Could you have made this fast, one touch, one-end-to-the-other, sweeping passing move that ended in a goal sound any less impressive?!
