LUFC Howson looking for improvement

Leeds United midfielder John Howson is looking for an improvement on last season.

Leeds surprised a number of people with a seventh place finish last season in their first season back in the championship.

The final finishing place ended up as a disappointment, after Leeds had held a play off place from November until and April. They even found themselves in the automatic promotion places in December after beating eventual champions Queens Park Rangers.

Howson is now setting his sights on the minimum of a play off place despite the championship looking it`s strongest in many years.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Howson said, "If you`re looking to improve, and obviously we are, then sixth place is a fair expectation.
"Improving on last season means finishing sixth and it`s what we`ll be aiming to do. It`s what the fans will demand of us too.
"I`d expect us to learn a lot from last season and in certain respects we`ll be better for it. It was quite a difficult season to judge because, as a whole, we went a lot closer to the play-offs than anyone expected. I didn`t hear too many people tipping us before the season."

The Leeds born lad enjoyed a successful season on a personal note last season that culminated in him earning his first England under 21 cap and also making the initial 43-man squad for the summer European championships, although he didn`t make the final squad.

Howson was the only ever present in the Leeds squad last season and he also captained the side on thirty-three occasions.

The 23 year old also enjoyed his best season in front of goal, netting on eleven occasions, which also included a fifteen-minute hat trick at Scunthorpe United back in October.

Leeds have so far added Paul Rachubka and Michael Brown to their squad, whilst Shane Higgs, Kasper Schmeichel, Richard Naylor, Bradley Johnson and Neil Kilkenny have all left.
