LUFC Grayson hoping for Lichaj return

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson would like to bring defender Eric Lichaj back to Elland Road if the opportunity arises.

The defender joined Leeds on loan from Aston Villa last February and was one of the most consistent performers in the final few months of the season.

The American showed his versatility by playing at both his preferred right back position and filled in at left back when required.

Grayson realises he may need to be patient, with new Villa boss Alex McLeish expected to want to take a look at all his players before making a decision on their futures.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Grayson said, "Eric did really well last year and it could be an option if Aston Villa allow us to go down that route again. But the new manager (Villa`s Alex McLeish) might want to keep him there.

Lichaj admitted himself at the end of his loan period that he would relish the chance to return to Elland Road when he spoke in the Yorkshire Evening Post at the end of the season. 'If the right circumstances came around, I`d be glad to come back here. Everyone has been great, the players, the coaching staff and fans.
'Playing the amount of games has probably been the best thing. I came here to play and I played 13 or 14 or something, which is always good. It`s the longest stretch in my career and it`s good to get that under my belt,"admitted Lichaj.

The 22 year old was an ever present with Leeds after making his debut at Bristol City in February, making sixteen appearances in total.

Does he need picking up? I will quite happily pick him up and drive him to Elland Road. I thought he was our most consistent player over the final two months of the season. I wished the full time players had shown his passion and desire and we wouldn't have been missing out on the play offs.

Although he was outstanding last season if the transfer goes ahead we are still NO Stronger than last season. If we don't get him it will be yet another setback. Get your finger out and start buying quality players.
