LUFC Gradel makes Ivory Coast debut

Max Gradel won his first international cap for Ivory Coast on Sunday in their African cup of nations qualifier in Benin.

Gradel came off the bench as Ivory Coast enjoyed a comprehensive 6-2 win and book their place in next years finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea that runs from January 21 to February 12, 2012.

Leeds player of the year came on with the side already 3-0 ahead early in the second half.

Despite Benin scoring twice within minutes of Gradel`s arrival on the pitch, Ivory Coast hit back to score three more goals.

Elsewhere Neil Kilkenny played the 90 minutes as Australia beat New Zealand 3-0 in a friendly international.

Kasper Schmeichel was not included in the eighteen as Denmark won 2-0 in Iceland in their Euro 2012 qualifier.

Davide Somma could be in action this evening as South Africa travel to Egypt for their African cup of nations qualifying game.

Great that he's got a game but it now looks like we are going to miss him for a month next season. Why can't these tournaments take place during the summer.

Max's first International game would have been the icing on the cake if he had got on the score sheet...I really believe if Max hadn't of came to Leeds he would have never got the call to play for his Country...Great for Max I hope it's the first of many for him...

Great to see him getting some international recognition after a great season for Leeds.
