LUFC Bates blasts McCartney

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has blasted George McCartney for his comments about players suffering from fatigue.

On loan defender George McCartney claimed in an interview in the Yorkshire Evening Post that the players have been 'out on their feet` for the past few weeks after playing so many games this season.

The normally shy and reserved Bates questioned his comments and questioned the former Northern Ireland internationals own form in recent weeks.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "I don`t understand what he means by players being 'out on their feet` after playing so much this season. It certainly doesn`t apply to him. As far as I can see, looking at the fixture list, as far as I know, he has only played twice in the last six games.
"So I don`t think fatigue can contribute to his contribution, which I haven`t been particularly impressed with."

Bates also questioned the player`s commitment to Leeds. "As I understand it, he has been fined more than once for turning up late in training.
"So perhaps if he turned up on time and showed a bit more commitment then he wouldn`t feel quite so tired.
"I think it`s a rubbish excuse for him and anybody else who wants to swing that one."

McCartney originally joined Leeds on a month`s loan, from Premier League side Sunderland back in September, but after impressing boss Simon Grayson, it was extended until the New Year.

With fellow left back Ben Parker still injured at Elland Road, Grayson decided to extend the deal until the end of the season.

McCartney started the game against Burnley on Saturday, his 32nd of the season, but once again, he produced a lacklustre performance that was criticised on more than one occasion by the Leeds fans in the stands.

Not often I agree with Mr Chairman but I do in this case. The guy has played twice in six games (and I use the word played reservedly) and he has been one of our poorer performers in 2011. Shut up and put up. Anyway if players were that jaded what happened to our big squad.

I haven't rated McCartney since early on, most of our goals conceded have come down his wing with him either out of position or falling over. If he's been such a pain, not turning up for training, then why haven't we binned him off

He has attended 2 games recently his shirt didn't require washing as didn't get a sweat on. If he's been fined on a regular basis why still keep him.
