LUFC Home sweet home for Leeds

LUFC Home sweet home for Leeds

Leeds United finished their home Championship campaign with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, to finish a fairly impressive campaign at Elland Road.

The win over Burnley was their sixteenth game unbeaten at home since suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City in October.

It equalled their longest unbeaten sequence in any one season since 1993/94.

Not since the championship-winning season of 1991/92 have they had a better run during a single season, when they went undefeated during the whole campaign of 21 home games.

Overall, Leeds have won eleven games at Elland Road, with eight draws and four defeats.

Only Portsmouth and Doncaster have had more home draws than Leeds, with both clubs having nine.

Out of their 69 points totalled so far this season, with one game remaining, 41 points have come on home soil.

Fans have certainly been entertained this season. 81 goals have been scored at Elland Road. Leeds are the highest scorers on home soil this season, scoring 47 goals. They have also conceded 34 with only four sides having a worse home defensive record in the division.

Leeds have only scored more than 47 goals on one other occasion since 1972, when they netted 49 times during the 2008/09 season.

Leeds scored five goals on one occasion when they defeated Doncaster 5-2 in March. They also netted four goals on three occasions, against Preston North End, Scunthorpe United and Nottingham Forest.

At the other end, Cardiff put four past Leeds and Preston scored six in a 6-4 win at the end of September, it was the first time they had conceded six goals on home soil in their history.

There have been involved in fifteen games at Elland Road this season where both sides have scored; Leeds fell behind in nine of these games. They ended up winning three, drawing three and losing three of the games where they fell behind.

Leeds only failed to score on three occasions against Cardiff (0-4) and Ipswich and Reading in goalless draws.

Clean sheets were also a bit of a rarity. Leeds managed only seven, against Sheffield United (1-0), Queens Park Rangers (2-0), Scunthorpe (4-0), Coventry (1-0), Ipswich (0-0), Reading (0-0) and the 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Luciano Becchio enjoyed playing at Elland Road this season, sixteen of his twenty goals in all competitions coming on home soil.

Becchio was also the only player to net a hat trick, when he came off the bench against Bristol City in November, to score three times in seventeen minutes.

Bradley Johnson has scored six goals this season with them all coming at home.

Robert Snodgrass failed to find the net at Elland Road this season, with his seven goals all coming on Leeds travels.
