LUFC Lees - I just want to play football

LUFC Lees - I just want to play football

Despite Leeds down turn in form in the Championship in the past few months and almost inevitable failure to reach the play offs, one squad member is celebrating promotion this week.

Tom Lees is enjoying a season long loan at Gigg Lane with Bury and helped the Shakers secure promotion from League Two on Monday, with a win at already promoted Chesterfield.

Lees has been a key member of the Bury squad, missing just one game this season.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Lees said, "I`ve always said that loan moves are the best option for players my age if you`re not involved with your (parent) club and I really can`t understand why anyone would want to sit about doing nothing and wasting a season.
"I want to play football and I want to better myself. I want to experience moments like we had at Chesterfield. I`m going to enjoy it because it might be a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You don`t get promotion every year and some players never do."

The 20 year old has also been amongst the goals this season and twice found the net over the Easter period. He scored the winner against Lincoln on Good Friday and the opener at Chesterfield on Monday to take his tally for the season to five.

Lees signed a new two and a half year deal in December after impressing at Bury keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2013.

The youngster came through the Leeds Academy and spent the 2009/10 season on loan at Accrington Stanley.

The central defender will be hoping that his form this season at Bury will push him into the reckoning at Elland Road but he isn`t prepared to sit around waiting for the chance. "I can`t say what`s going to happen.
"I`d like to be more involved at Leeds. Any player would. But I`ll need to sit down and speak to a few people before I know what the plan is.
"I`ve been playing for myself this season, as well as playing for Bury, and you always know that if you perform well, someone might be watching,
"At the end of the day, playing football`s what I want to do and it`s really up to other people decide where I do it," he continued

Lees is still waiting to make his competitive debut for Leeds, but made a number of appearances in the last pre season, including a 4-0 defeat at his loan club Bury.
