LUFC Grayson - We keep pressing the same button

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson was critical of his sides defending after once again squandering a lead.

Leeds looked to be heading for all three points when they took the lead through Luciano Becchio with just eighteen minutes remaining.

For the second time in for days, Leeds then pressed the self destruct button conceding twice in eight minutes with some woeful marking and defending.

Grayson was less than impressed with his defence, speaking on Radio Leeds he said, 'It was frustrating because I say the same things after every game.
'We get the goals but we make individual mistakes.
'Today, we got in front and then within five or 10 minutes it's 2-1.We don't have a siege mentality when we go in front.
'We knew it might be the 70th, 80th or 90th minute when we ground it out. We went 1-0 up, Luciano missed a chance, then it's 1-1 and then 2-1.
'I keep having to say the same things on a regular basis which is frustrating for me, my staff and the players.
'At this stage of the season it doesn't matter how you win games. We got the goal and then we switched off. Then players made soft challenges and Danny Graham gets in and puts the lad (Weimann) in.
'We pressed the button that we've pressed many a time this year.'

Despite dropping more points, Leeds are still holding onto the final play off place but have Nottingham Forest and Hull City breathing down their necks, just two points behind Leeds.

Leeds face a tricky home clash against in form Reading next Friday in front of the Sky Sports cameras and unless they can sort their defence out they will be in trouble against the free scoring royals.

They've not been good enough all Season so why do we bring in Midfielders when we needed defenders in the Loan Window
Tiny T
We did need midfielders because we was all critical of what was in front of the defence. A month back Bromby and O'Brien looked good together and it was a defensive midfielder we was all screaming for. The defence is shocking but they have had no support all season. We have been saying the same though all season, we need a clear out (again). The thing is we keep turning half decent defenders into poor ones!

Who would we keep could be the question ???
Tiny T
We've got the defenders. We've not got the concentration.

Its a combination of defenders and midfielders. For their first goal bannan totally switched off and didnt track his man who had a free header. Second goal Graham went through two midfielders and a defender without any of them getting a tackle in. The guys are not sticking to their tasks. Tiny asked who we would keep. The whole defence can go. Lichaj and Mccartney will go back to their clubs as we cant afford them although I would love to have Lichaj. Bromby and AOB are veternas and look it. Killa and Johnson can go for me. (what a pity we didnt sign Eustace as he looked the real deal yesterday as a defensive enforcer.

I agree about Eustace erni, I was watching him very closely. He ticked all the right boxes for a defensive midfielder. Grayson must be kicking himself now for not signing him last summer.

I was at the game on Saturday and we simply didn't field the right formation for me. Why play with Gradel as the lead striker competing with a centre-back twice his size for headers with Somma playing off him? You could see within 15 minutes that it wasn't going to work. Midfield had no chance because we couldn't keep the ball so all it does is put pressure on the defence and leave us playing long ball football. It took Grayson a good hour to change anything. If Becchio is fit enough to play then he should have started!? When he came on we looked better but then he went off injured and we struggled. Grayson has made some bad decisions and he needs to get it sorted - defenders have made mistakes in recent games but playing 4-4-2 and not 4-5-1 that works for us is not helping. Rant over - anyone else agree/disagree?
