LUFC Schmeichel - Leeds are bigger than City

Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is hoping to help lead Leeds back into the Premier League, where he believes the fans belong.

Schmeichel as been impressed with the fans since his arrival at Elland Road and believes that the club is much bigger than that of his former club Manchester City in terms of fan base.

Speaking in the Daily Star, Schmeichel said, "City may be the richest club in the world but in terms of the fan base, Leeds is a bigger club.
"There`s something about this place which makes it special. It certainly feels like a Premier League club. Of course, it has great history and tradition, but it is the fans which really make this club.
"Earlier this season at Burnley, we were 2-0 down but came back to win 3-2 and the noise from behind my goal was really phenomenal. I`ve never known anything like it."

Leeds once again leads the way in terms of average attendances this season outside the Premier League.

Over 27,000 on average have gone through the turnstiles at Elland Road this season and the away support continues to fill grounds around the country.

Leeds have sold every away allocation they have received since relegation to League One in 2007.

This season alone, over 6,000 fans have travelled to Coventry and Barnsley in the Championship and they sold their 9,000 allocation for the FA Cup trip to Arsenal with twenty minutes of going on sale.

I'm not going to argue with Kasper, he's a big lad and got a temper like his dad!!

City averaged more than that in the third tier. I'm ancient and Leeds are not and never have been a big club just noisy-one-club-town think they are big big like Newcastle et al.

City may have averaged more than that in the 3rd tier, but did they have to put up with Premier League prices? Leeds have continued to have good average attendances and sell out every away allocation despite having to pay season ticket prices which were higher than Aston Villa charged for the top flight. And of course Leeds have never been a big club and are just a noisy one-town club - that's why jackblue (City fan) feels the need to comment on such an insignificent team! Leeds fans don't ever need to make comments on their size and significance to the football world - the anti-Leeds songs which still take place at grounds like Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge tell the story for us. Thanks, jackblue!
