LUFC Grayson - It was a blatant red card

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson felt the officials got it right when they sent off Chris Cohen in the first half for what he called a blatant red card.

Cohen was shown a straight red card late in the first half for a tough tackle on George McCartney that infuriated Grayson so much he came onto the field of play.

The Forest midfielder lunged in on McCartney and despite taking the ball, he also took out the Leeds left back with his follow through.

Speaking on BBC 1 Match of the Day live after the game, Grayson said, "From where I was standing it was a blatant red card. He`s left the ground two footed, he might have taken the ball but he could have quite easily have broke George McCartney`s leg.
"That is why I was a little bit upset about the challenge, I`m sure if it had been a Leeds player making that sort of challenge the Forest bench would have been up in arms as well".

The challenge infuriated the Leeds bench and an altercation between Grayson and Forest assistant manager David Kelly followed with members of both benches getting involved.

The decision was the turning point of the game after Forest had enjoyed the better of the game in the first half.

Leeds came out in the second half and quickly took the lead through John Howson.

Forest got a goal back through Gareth McCleary but two Max Gradel goals wrapped up the victory for Leeds.

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has said that the club with appeal against the red card.

There was definitely a bit carried over from the first game at Forest earlier in the season when Gunter should have got sent off.

I think SG is a bit over the top with his assessment of the senbding off after watching it on TV. From the stands in real time it looked a clear cut sending off. I still think he went in studs up and out of control but he got the ball. In todays game you cant make thoise sort of challenges and Forest will not be successful with an appeal.

I think Graysons right about it being a red and if McCartney had got to the ball first I dread to think what might have happened. You can't go into tackles like that anymore whether you win the ball or not.
