LUFC Howson - Sending off changed the game

Leeds United captain Johnny Howson was happy with a big victory over Nottingham Forest and admitted the sending off was the turning point of the game.

Howson fired Leeds into the lead five minutes into the second half after being under pressure for most of the first half.

The turning point of the game came inside the final ten minutes of the first half when Forest were reduced to ten men after Chris Cohen was shown a straight red card for a tackle on George McCartney.

Talking on BBC 1 Match of the Day live, after the game, Howson said, "It was a very big victory, they were a place below us, coming off a bad defeat we had to get back to winning ways and we have done.
"The changing point of the game was the man being sent off.
"I haven`t seen it back on the TV but from my position it looked like a two footed lunge."

Luciano Becchio increased Leeds lead five minutes later before Gareth McCleary gave the visitors hope when he pulled a goal back.

Max Gradel continued his tremendous form in front of goal this season with two goals to earn Leeds three valuable points and cement their place in the play offs.

I think Howson really stood out as a player of two halves, he hardly had a kick in the first half and was then the driving force through the centre of midfield in the second. I didn't think he looked fully fit in the first half.Good goal, his tenth in the Championship this season.
