'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC O'Brien We weren't at the races

Andy O`Brien says the players let the fans down after their poor performance at Swansea on Saturday where he admitted they weren't at the races.

Leeds rarely threatened and went down 3-0 to their fellow promotion contenders at the Liberty Stadium.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, O`Brien said, "You can make excuses about having three games in a week but we knew how important this was. We weren`t at the races and I think we made them look better than they are. There`s no doubt they knock the ball about well but we didn`t make it into an ugly enough game."

Leeds were always on the back foot after conceding inside fifteen minutes when Scott Sinclair fired Swansea into the lead.

The whites were then denied a clear-cut penalty when Alan Tate handled a goal bound shot from Robert Snodgrass inside the area.

Davide Somma also hit the crossbar as Leeds finished the first half brightly after being dominated for long periods.

Swansea increased their lead early in the second half when Sinclair scored from the spot and Luke Moore wrapped up the game with twenty minutes remaining.

O`Brien was quick to apologise to the 3,000 Leeds fans who made the long trip to Swansea for the lunchtime kick off, who he applauded after once again sticking with the side until the very end of the game, "We`ve got a responsibility. People paid a lot of money to come down to Swansea and we should do better.
"There`s 12 games left and we need to stick together as players and supporters - who were fantastic again - for an important time of the season. We`ve got to dust ourselves down and get back on track," he continued.

Simon Grayson will now be hoping for a response from his players as they prepare for a local derby with Doncaster Rovers at Elland Road on Saturday.

I thought the way some of them had played they spent to much time in the hospitality tent at the races!!

O'Brien seems to have slipped into the average central defender since making his loan deal permanent. I was really hoping he would be a leader on the pitch and sort out the defence and midfield.
