LUFC McCartney in Ireland squad

On loan Leeds United defender George McCartney has been included in the Northern Ireland squad for their nations cup clash with Scotland.

McCartney has been in good form for Leeds since initially joining on loan from Sunderland in September.

The 29 year old was included in the Ireland squad for their friendly with Morocco in November but was forced to pull out through injury.

Also recalled to the side is former Leeds United striker David Healy who was dropped from the side for the same friendly with Morocco.

Scotland have yet to name their squad but Leeds winger Robert Snodgrass will be hoping to earn a call up after impressing for Leeds in recent months.

The game will take place at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on February 9th.

Well done to George, Glynn Snodin the Ireland assistant gets a first hand view of him week in week out. I hope Snodgrass can get a call up for Scotland, they would be up against each other, I wonder which one would win the battle, my money is on Snodders.

We seem to have a poor record for getting player back fit from meaningless internationals. Lets hope this one doesnt bite us in the backside.
