LUFC Portsmouth v Leeds Head to Head

Vital Leeds looks at the head to head record between Portsmouth and Leeds at Fratton Park throughout the years.

The two sides have met on 28 occasions at Portsmouth with the home side winning 13, Leeds 6 and 9 draws.

The last time they met was during the 2007/08 season when Portsmouth knocked Leeds out of the Carling Cup 3-0.

Their last league meeting came in Leeds last season in the Premier League when Portsmouth won 6-1, a result that saw manager Peter Reid sacked as Leeds boss.

Leeds last win came during the 1998/99 season when they knocked Portsmouth out of the FA Cup 5-1 after going behind early on.

Three of the last four meetings have been in cup competitions.

There as not been a shortage of goals in recent encounters with 45 goals coming in the last 10 games on the South coast.

The two clubs met over the festive period this season at Elland Road and shared the points in a 3-3 draw.

Leeds looked to be heading for a comfortable win when they led 2-0 inside ten minutes thanks to goals from Max Gradel and John Howson.

David Nugent pulled a goal back for the visitors before Bradley Johnson restored the two-goal advantage.

Leeds defender Andy O`Brien then had an afternoon that he`d sooner forget when he twice put through his own goal, the equaliser coming deep into stoppage time.

Plenty of goals in these games, that usually is the kiss of death, so a banker 0-0.

That 6-1 was the end of the road for Peter Reids stint at ER and a low point of a low season.

Old pic of FP there the visitors stand has a roof on now!! Was at all of the 80's games but only one league meeting in the last twenty years tells a story of the diverging paths of the two clubs. Rumours are that Pompey may only have two players on the bench tomorrow!!

Glad O'Brien is not playing this time...Most every game there was high scoring 45 goals in 10 games...Hopefully this weekend it will be a game with plenty of goals for Leeds...

Some classic games, remember the long haul back home after the 4-0 defeat in 1988 when Ian Baird was sent off early doors for punching a Portsmouth player (he had only just left them to come back to Leeds).
