LUFC Fans view v Arsenal

Regular fans view columnist Tiny T gives us his views of the Leeds players performance in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Schmeichel 9
Outstanding saves and stood no chance with the penalty, kicking game a little wayward though.

Connolly 7
Solid enough and tackled well, didn't get forward much but understandable.

O'Brien 8
Dependable at the back and read the game well with timely interventions.

Bruce 9 Star man
Great display on being reinstated to the side. Defended like a Trojan, both Bendtner and Chamakh felt his tough tackling.

Parker 7
Only his second game back and didn't let the side down.

Watt 8
Played wide in the first half and was a willing worker in both attack and defence causing the odd problem with his trickery. Moved centrally in the second half, but tired towards the end.

Howson 8
Tough tackling display and cleared the ball off the line twice.

Johnson 8
Same as Jonny, put himself about with some strong tackling.

Gradel 6
For me the weak link today, won the penalty which had us all in dream land. Seems a little out of sorts of late.

Snodgrass 7
Didn't seem to fit playing in the link behind Becchio, much happier when moved wide in the second half, scored the Penalty and went close later with a free kick.

Becchio 7
Worked hard all game and had the keeper on his toes with a good header in the second half. He didn't want to come off when subbed, says it all. He also cleared one off the line.

Substitutes
Bromby 7

Worked hard but gave the penalty away. (Ed note - It was actually Parker)

Somma and Hughes not on long enough.
Summary

We rode our luck a little with clearances off the line and some good stops by Kasper.
Extremely solid defensively making arsenal play for periods across the park to find a way through the well marshalled defence. Both centre backs had good games.

We often played a little too deep so Becchio had little to work on up front but put pressure on the arsenal defenders.

Yet again I have to praise the 8500 travelling fans who backed the side 110%, were the Gunners at home ???
Wait for Elland Road in the replay with 36000 Leeds fans in full voice.

My first visit to the Emirates [ hopefully not the last ] and its a wonderful stadium, do there fans deserve it though, with very little vocal backing until the final few minutes and quite a few had left before the late equaliser.

Final note thanks to the arsenal Keeper for his applause to us for the backing of our side, respect

Thanks Tiny as always for your views.

I was glad to see Bruce back alongside O'Brien as I think they work better together. The one thing I kept saying all the way through the game was, 'why can't we defend like this every week?'. If we did we would be walking the championship rather than conceding well over 40 goals.

We viewed the game from the top row of the stand and the layers were miles away but great view to see the formations and work rate that was going on. The defence was brilliant (that included central midfield) but thought we gave the initiative to Arsenal with defensive substitutions too early. Like Tiny I thought Gradel was the weak link today as he has been for the last few games. Wonder how this is linked with the rumours of a move to the PL. Yesterdays game will not have helped that. Well done lads.

I think O'Brian was the star of defence - ok he didnt make as many heroic clearances as bruce but then again he didnt get himself into a position where he needed to - good foot ball accross the back line and Kasper came alive for this one too

When he brought Bromby on, I thought 'here we go, backs to the wall' we have been critical of Grayson recently for not protecting leads against Leicester and Portsmouth. This time he tried to defend it and to be honest it nearly came off.

The defence was on form yesterday, I would have given the man of the match to Kasper, just ahead of Bruce and O'Brien. He made some world class saves, especially the one in injury time from Denilson.

Not taking any thing away from the ream performance & I agree with what most of you say, BUT BEN PARKER is a liability, When I got back I've watched the game 3 times & Parkers marking is non excistent,He can.t hold players up,He loses the ball to easy & gives it away too many times & gave a stupid penalty away in the dying seconds,(Although Walcot fell down to easily) when Bruce was covering. Sorry,BEN as to go. He's been like it even before his injury,CRAP.
