LUFC Grayson immensely proud

Simon Grayson was immensely proud after seeing his Leeds side come within minutes of claiming another top four Premiership scalp.

After knocking out Manchester United at the same stage last season, Arsenal had to rely on a 90th minute penalty from Cesc Fabregas to earn the gunners a replay at Elland Road.

Speaking on BBC Sport, Grayson said, I'm delighted to get a result.
Even though we were a couple of minutes from winning. "

'Given the way that we performed, we can be immensely proud.'
'They've certainly done themselves a lot of credit today. I thought the atmosphere was fantastic here today with our fans and we've given them something to cheer about.'

Leeds had taken the lead on 54 minutes when Robert Snodgrass scored from the spot after a foul on Max Gradel inside the area.

It looked to be enough as Arsenal struggled to break through a resolute defence and a goalkeeper in great form.

'Arsenal had some big players out there today but we defended well as a team,' continued Grayson. 'We had some luck here and there and our goalkeeper made some good saves, but at times we caused Arsenal some problems.'

Luciano Becchio and Robert Snodgrass came close to doubling the lead, Becchio saw his firm header tipped away by Szczesny and then Snodgrass saw his free kick go just wide of the post with Szczesny rooted to the spot.

Arsenal started to get closer inside the final ten minutes and Walcott wasted a great opportunity when he chipped the ball straight into Schmeichel`s hands.

There was controversy in the final minutes when Phil Dowd appeared to award a penalty for a foul on Walcott, an incident that Walcott as admitted to diving hoping to win a penalty, since the final whistle.

His assistant who was flagging for an offside over ruled Dowd but the offside incident happened after the foul.

It was to be short lived relief for Leeds when Parker tugged back Walcott and this time Dowd had no doubt.

Fabregas scored from the spot and the sides will now meet at Elland Road with no date yet announced for the game.

The one thing I always feel immesely proud of is our fans. You don't get a true refelction of it when you are actually in the Leeds end when at away games but when you are forced to sit in the home end and you can sit and watch its fantastic. Once again, loud and proud for 90 minutes whilst 50,000 Arsenal fans shared whispers!

A great performance, it makes me wonder with us being below par in the league recently, did a few of them have this game on their minds. We don't need them getting distracted by the cup this season and costing us any chance in the Championship. Games and days out like this need to be happening everu week and the only way that will happen is if we get promoted.
